Instructions

1 Begin by slicing the onions and layer them at the base of a 6-quart slow cooker.
Sprinkle salt, pepper, and sugar over the onions, then add butter pieces on top.
2 Set the slow cooker to LOW heat and cook the onions for about 12 hours until
caramelized.
3 Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, and French onion soup mix in a
bowl. Form the mixture into a loaf shape.
4 Add cooking sherry and Worcestershire sauce over the prepared onions in the slow
cooker. Carefully position the formed meatloaf on top of the onions.
5 Cook on HIGH for about 3 hours, or until the internal temperature of the
meatloaf hits 160°F.
6 Once cooked, place cheese slices on top of the meat and cook for an additional
20-30 minutes until the cheese is melted.
7 Serve the sliced meatloaf alongside the caramelized onions and sauce drizzled
over, garnished with fresh thyme.
