Chinese Cabbage Roll Recipe

Chinese cabbage rolls are filled with an umami meat filling wrapped in soft
cabbage leaves. Steaming the rolls makes them much healthier.

Instructions

1 Take one Chinese cabbage and remove the stalk. Separate the leaves carefully so
that they don’t break. Boil water in a large pot. Add ½ tsp of salt and ½ tbsp
of oil to the water. Blanch the cabbage leaves in boiling water for two minutes.
2 Then, take the leaves out and put them in cold water.
3 I am using minced beef for the filling. Add ½ tsp of salt, 1 tsp chicken
essence, ½ tsp of black pepper, and 1 tsp of cooking wine to the minced meat.
Also, add one whole egg and 1 tsp of cornstarch to the meat.
4 Dice up the shiitake mushrooms and add them to the filling. Sprinkle some
chopped scallions and mix everything.
5 Place one cabbage leaf on the chopping board and put one scoop of filling onto
it. Shape the filling like a small log. Fold the leaf from both sides toward the
center and then roll the leaf till the end.
6 Repeat this step to fill up the remaining leaves with the minced meat filling.
7 Boil water in a steamer. Once the water is boiling, place the cabbage rolls onto
the steamer and close the lid. Steam the rolls for about 7 minutes.
8 After removing the rolls from the steamer, garnish with some shredded scallions.
Then, drizzle ½ tbsp of hot oil and 1 tbsp of soy sauce over the rolls.
Delicious cabbage rolls are now ready.
