Instructions
1
Whisk together the flours, baking powder and salt in a separate bowl and set
aside.
2
In a mixer, cream the butter and sugar together, about 3 minutes.
3
Beat in the egg, then the vanilla.
4
Add the dry ingredients and beat until everything is just combined
5
Wrap the dough in plastic film and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight.
6
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
7
Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
8
Roll the dough out on a floured surface and cut out the cookies with an Oscar
shaped cutter and place on a baking sheet.
9
Transfer the other half the cutouts to the parchment-lined baking sheet. use
small star cutters, to cut star shapes in the Oscar cutout. Use a toothpick to
remove the cutouts from the cutter.
10
NOTE: Place the cutout cookies and the solid ones on different baking sheets.
They will have different baking times. The cutout ones will bake faster.
11
Once full, place the cookie sheets in the freezer for 10 minutes before
transferring to the oven. This will prevent the cookies from spreading too much.
12
Bake the solid Oscar cookies for 8 minutes. Bake the Oscar cookies with the star
cutouts for 6 minutes or until just slightly golden around the edges.
13
Transfer to a wire rack and let cool completely.
14
Spread the solid cookie (the one without the cutouts) with a layer of jam or
jelly.
15
Once the cutout Oscars have cooled, spray them with edible gold.
16
Dip the paintbrush in the alcohol, then into the dust and paint it on the cutout
cookies.
17
Place the decorated cutout cookie on top of the jelly covered cookie.
18
Plate and serve but definitely hide a few for yourself.
