Feijoada is a very flavoursome thick, spicy, tangy Red gravy that is made using a combination of Red Kidney beans and Beef or Pork Sausages. In Goa, we use Goa Pork Sausages to make Feijoada. Feijoada gets its name from the word 'Feijão' which means 'Beans' in Portuguese. I was first introduced to Feijoada when I was a little girl, by my Mom's closest friend in Goa, my sweet aunt Barretto, who by the way speaks some amazing Portuguese with my Dad 😉 and is an AMAZING cook! She had made this dish for her Birthday and we all went absolutely gaga over this dish because it was completely new for us! Obviously, I asked her for the recipe 🤷😬 and she was kind enough to share it with me. All she said was "it is very simple if you know how to make sorpotel. Same masala" and the minute we touched down Bombay, Mum and I gave it a shot and Yayyy! it turned out so so good😋 So id like to Thank aunty Milly(that's what we call her) for sharing her recipe with us! I'd like to share the same with all of you😊
View RecipeJeerem Meerem spice powder is used in many Goan dishes like cutlets, curries, chilly fries, etc. Jeerem is the Konkani name for Cumin Seeds and Meerem is the Konkani name for Pepper Corns, which are the two main ingredients of this spice powder. It has a distinct Aromatic flavour that can be smelt from afar! It is an extremely easy and handy spice powder to prepare and store. It comes to your rescue to help you with some quick recipes, especially when you either don't feel like cooking or when you don't have time on hand! The recipe that I've shared below, is what I've learnt from my Mum. She calls it Jeera Meera Powder.
View RecipeChicken Cafreal is a flavour packed Chicken dish that is cooked in a thick Coriander Gravy. The first time I ever ate Cafreal was when I was a little girl, at this very famous restaurant called 'Florentine' in Saligaon, Goa which till date earns it's fame because of it's Chicken Cafreal. Whenever I prepared Cafreal, I was never really content because it would taste like a normal Green Chicken Curry. As I started growing up and understanding flavours and after many experiements, I managed to come quite close to the Cafreals that I enjoy eating in Goa.. So here's my version of the recipe for Chicken Cafreal. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do😊😊

View RecipeChoris Dal was one of my first Discoveries to shortcut cooking🙈 During our childhood, we used to go to Goa for our Summer holidays and I remember my Mom telling me, one afternoon, to make Dal, Rice and Choris! The lazy side of me got me scratching my head as I wanted to go to the beach and play😅 Very confidently(although I thought my Mum was going to regret sending me into the kitchen) I made Choris Dal and in my family nobody had eaten this combination before! The praises I got were wayyyy beyond my expectation! That day I became the star of the kitchen at just 12 or 13yrs of age😝😝 I tried my luck at this superb recipe when I came back to Bombay and gave it to all my neighbours and as expected, I was treated like a celebrity chef that night😜😜😜 From then on, there's been no turning back..
View RecipeA simply delicious Mangalorean Prawn Chilli Fry, where the King Prawns are first marinated with a simple home-style chilli spice marinade and delicately fried until just tender. The prawns are then given an oomph by tossing them in an aromatic garnish of sauteed onions, ginger, green chilli and curry leaves. No hunting down hard to find ingredients in this must try Prawn Chilli Fry!
View RecipeI have very beautiful childhood memories of the delicious Beef Croquettes that used to be served at most Goan weddings, in Goa particularly. And the taste of those Croquettes still sing and dance in my mouth! It had a unique taste and texture and I'd be lying if I said that I didn't try many recipes to get it just the way I wanted.. but failed.. My Mum makes really yummy beef Croquettes, no doubt, but I always wanted that 'wedding croquette' Finally, during a conversation with my Mum's closest friend in Goa, aunty Milly, I started discussing the 'perfect wedding croquette' with her and she gave me a tip.... Usually beef croquettes are made from beef Mince ground into a paste.. but aunty Milly said that in Goa, they make croquettes using Beef Chunks, cooked and then mixed in a grinder.. After which, I improvised the recipe and tried making croquettes using a mix of both, Beef Mince and ground Beef chunks and I'd say that this recipe is quite close to that 'Perfect Wedding Croquette' I hope you enjoy making my version of Beef Croquettes as much as I enjoy eating them by the dozen😅😅😅 Thank You aunty Milly for this tip...
View RecipeIn this recipe, I’ve used Dudhi(Bottle Gourd) and Fresh Prawns Nana's Special - Prawn & Dudee Caldine My Nana Doll would always eat her curry like this, Bread pieces dunked into the Curry where all the Bread would be soaked with the Curry. She would tell us it's Fun to eat like this, but my GrandPops would take us on the side and tell us "Arey mahtari ko daanth nahi hai re, iskeliye".(The Old Lady doesn't have Teeth)... Shhhhh Oh How I miss my Nana and Papa I'm sure they're laughing from up above At home, We call Caldine “Sweet Curry” as this is a very mild curry with no spice nor spicy red Chillies like the other Goan curries. Whenever we are under the weather, my Mum makes this light and simple “Sweet Curry” for us. I remember My Mom making this curry for any of our family members who are unwell, especially the Elder folk, she always takes a container of “sweet curry” for them. But she uses White Pomfrets in the curry so that it is easier and light to digest😊 This curry base is so versatile and you can use any Fish and Vegetables of your choice. You can also make this using a combination of various Vegetables. In this recipe, I’ve used Dudhi(Bottle Gourd) and Fresh White Prawns. Do give it a try
