Poha/Fov/Flattened Rice Recipe

Poha/Fov/Flattened Rice Recipe

Poha is the local Indian name for Flattened Rice. It is also known as "Fov" in Konkani. Poha is a very delicious and extremely healthy breakfast or tea time snack.  From the healthy lot, this happens to be my favourite breakfast/tea time snack! It not only excites my taste buds, but also keeps me fuller for a longer period of time 🙂 My love for Poha goes way back to my childhood days wherein all the children of my area would go to a Garden in South Mumbai to play during evening time and before leaving for home after winding up, our parents used to treat us at a humble 'garden canteen' also knows as "Zhunka Baakar" runned by women. All of us as kids used to wait for our turn to enjoy our evening snacks after play.  I dedicate this post to all my childhood friends who enjoyed eating at "Japanese Garden"  Sharing with you all, my version of Poha/Fov/Flattened Rice. Hope You Enjoy It 🙂

Recipe for Batata Vada & Kandha Batata Bhajjia

Recipe for Batata Vada & Kandha Batata Bhajjia

If you live or have lived in Mumbai or anywhere in Maharashtra, it’s just not possible for you to not have enjoyed Garma GaramVada Pavs and Kandha Batata Bhajjias. You will mostly find Vada Pav stalls at almost every corner of the Streets of Mumbai. For some, it is a meal and for some it’s a snack.Being one of the most economical snacks available, it is Mumbai’s specialty and one cannot and should not leave Mumbai without trying out this snack. My Mum prepares these Tea Time snacks at Home very often. But, when you have a cart right next to your building selling these, you’re always tempted to go and purchase it from there. Here in Dubai, with absolutely no street carts available, your best and only option is to make these Hot yummies at Home.. Although in Dubai, we get each and everything available at fancy restaurants, the Street Food emotion is a totally different one.  The one thing I miss most about Mumbai is it’s Street Food. The recipes for the Batata Vadas and Bhajjias are my Mum’s and for the Red chutney, I took some tips from my Maharashtrian friend Shweta Kalkar. The only thing different I did was that I added roasted peanuts to the chutney because I used to see my neighbour doing that.

Recipe for Besan Laddoos

Recipe for Besan Laddoos

‘Besan’ or 'Chane ka Atta' is the Local Indian word for Gram Flour or Chickpea Flour. 'Chana' is Chickpea/Gram and 'Atta' is Flour. Besan Laddoos are one of my Mom and Brother’s favourite Christmas sweets. The Hindu community also makes these laddoos during Diwali. Whenever Mum makes Besan Laddoos, my only duty would be to Shape the them because at home nobody could manage the perfect round shape, except me and my brother’s duty was only to Eat all the Laddoos, lucky bugger! Although it’s not Christmas or Diwali, I made this batch of laddoos to celebrate a Friend’s Birthday who I have utmost respect for, who has given me SO MUCH & MORE when it comes to FOOD …be it Knowledge, Guidance, Motivation, Tips,Corrections, Advice, I can go on and on… That friend is David D’souza, A Goan Food Blogger and Food Enthusiast whose Global Goan Food Page on Facebook called ‘Traditional Goan Foodies’ is trending with more than 170k members and counting, where all of us all over the World, share Goan Food Recipes, Forgotten Traditional Foods, Techniques, Knowledge, etc.. Besan Laddoos are one of David's favourites. So, instead of a cake, I decided to make Besan Laddoos to celebrate his Birthday! P.S. My Bitter Better, staring at the laddoos, asks me “Why are these called “Basin” laddoos when they are made of Chane ka atta?” OMG! I wanted to Hug him and Kiss him but then I said this guy will get too much footage…hahahaha… but I still did 😊 He’s so cute ya!!
