Patoleos/Patolis pronounced as "pathoyo" or "pathoyee" is a Traditional Goan/Mangalorean tea time snack which is prepared in most Goan/Mangalorean homes, on 15th August, in order to celebrate the feast of The Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven.Ā It is made out of Rice batter and stuffed with grated coconut and jaggery, wrapped in Turmeric leaves and steamed. Since turmeric leaves are not available here in Dubai, two of my close buddies, Cynthia Fernandes(Cyn) & Vincent Jelkie(VJ), brought them for me all the way from their garden back home in Belgaum, India.Ā When Patoleos/Patolis are being prepared at home, the entire house is filled with a sweet, strong Aroma of the Turmeric leaves. I can bet you can't just eat one and get away with it!Ā This post is dedicated to my buddies, Cyn & VJ!Ā
View RecipeI was introduced to Carrot Cake by my sister in law Sophie, about 2 years ago. Her Carrot cake is, Hands down, the best Iāve eaten so far. If it wasnāt for her, I donāt think I would ever have dared to purchase or make a Carrot cake, simply because Mr. Carrot is not a very close buddy to me. Carrots have been my enemies since my childhood. My Mum has tried each and everything to feed me carrots, right from salads to adding them to my rice and pulaos and what not. Now with this delicious Carrot Cake, Carrots are slowly becoming my close friends. This recipe is a blend of 3-4 recipes that I have tried and combined, in order to get the perfect taste and texture as per my preference. I decided to share it with all of you only after my friends tasted it and said it was Super delish! It is a super moist and flavor packed cake. Iād like to share my recipe with all of you. This oneās for all the āNot-Soā Carrot Lovers! Hope you enjoy it as much as my friends and I do.
View RecipeAs a child I was always intrigued about recipes when I heard people say "arey it's so easy" and one such recipe was that of Bathk/Batica ā The Goan Coconut and Semolina cake. Was it really "arey so easy"? I'd say NO WAY! Till about 10-12 years ago, My Mum and I have tried various variations of the "very easy" bathk and we were never satisfied. We asked so many people for the recipe and every recipe was different from the other. When I had an idea of the ingredients that go into a Bathk, I decided to try my hand at the variation i thought may work. And when the Bathk was ready, My family LOVED it! So, when we had our House warming celebration at our home in Goa, I made 6kg of the Buttery Bathk in Bombay and travelled with all that cake by train(Jan shatapdi, I still remember) and all my guests loved it and asked for the recipe. I couldn't stop smiling when my Mom said "Finally" and she laughed! From dry bathksā¦..to crumbly bathksā¦.to over sweet bathksā¦..to not-so-sweet bathksā¦to the Final one that worked for us! Yayyyy! So here's my recipe of the "Arey It's So Easy" Bathk!!! Do give it a try
View RecipePoha is the local Indian name for Flattened Rice. It is also known as "Fov" in Konkani. Poha is a very delicious and extremely healthy breakfast or tea time snack. Ā From the healthy lot, this happens to be my favourite breakfast/tea time snack! It not only excites my taste buds, but also keeps me fuller for a longer period of time š My love for Poha goes way back to my childhood days wherein all the children of my area would go to a Garden in South Mumbai to play during evening time and before leaving for home after winding up, our parents used to treat us at a humble 'garden canteen' also knows as "Zhunka Baakar" runned by women. All of us as kids used to wait for our turn to enjoy our evening snacks after play.Ā I dedicate this post to all my childhood friends who enjoyed eating at "Japanese Garden"Ā Sharing with you all, my version of Poha/Fov/Flattened Rice. Hope You Enjoy It š
View RecipeIf you live or have lived in Mumbai or anywhere in Maharashtra, itās just not possible for you to not have enjoyed Garma GaramVada Pavs and Kandha Batata Bhajjias. You will mostly find Vada Pav stalls at almost every corner of the Streets of Mumbai. For some, it is a meal and for some itās a snack.Being one of the most economical snacks available, it is Mumbaiās specialty and one cannot and should not leave Mumbai without trying out this snack. My Mum prepares these Tea Time snacks at Home very often. But, when you have a cart right next to your building selling these, youāre always tempted to go and purchase it from there. Here in Dubai, with absolutely no street carts available, your best and only option is to make these Hot yummies at Home.. Although in Dubai, we get each and everything available at fancy restaurants, the Street Food emotion is a totally different one. Ā The one thing I miss most about Mumbai is itās Street Food. The recipes for the Batata Vadas and Bhajjias are my Mumās and for the Red chutney, I took some tips from my Maharashtrian friend Shweta Kalkar. The only thing different I did was that I added roasted peanuts to the chutney because I used to see my neighbour doing that.

But, when thereās previous Nightās Leftovers, it gives me some time to allow my Creative juices to flow and sometimes overflow! Haha Since there were leftover Red Spinach Chapatis(recipe link given below), I decided to crisp it up on a Pan, smear some Pizza sauce and add some Cheese and enjoy a simple yet exciting No Fuss Khakra Pizza! So Good! Trust me when I say this, your bacchus(kids) will go crazy over this breakyā¦and so will you! Khakra is a popular Gujrathi snack. It is prepared by frying thin crepes of dough until Crisp. They are round like Chapatis but they are Crunchy like fryums. So, whenever I would make chapatis that would turn out a little hard, My Mum and the other elders would tease me saying "Oh God! Today's chapatis are like Khakra" hahaha ,,,SAVAGE! Hence, I decided to call this "KHAKRA PIZZA" And Yes! I am a Pizza L.O.V.E.R just incase you weren't awareā¦.. A Freak if you may call me⦠So hereās What and How I Made itā¦

View RecipeI usually make Carrot Cake or Carrot Muffins using AllPurpose Flour for Tea Time. Since I have reduced the use of All Purpose Flour,I thought of alternating APF with Oats flour and it worked beautifully. Now Isatisfy my Sweet Cravings without feeling guilty and also this muffin is richin Iron and Fibre so itās a Twin -Win š Just know that this cake will be a little Dense as comparedto an APF cake. But the taste is delicious!
